The Solution:
At V&A Processing - Cape Town we aim to provide our customers with value added services geared specifically towards their processing requirements. With the facility of having over 60 meters of quay space available to us, we have the distinct advantage over other processing facilities, in that we have the advantage to work both on the roadside and quayside areas with fewer restrictions imposing on the service. This will allow us to focus on providing innovative services to the fishing industry working out of the Port of Cape Town and environs.
The Competitive Advantage:
The experience we have gained since 1997, in providing these services to the fishing industry in the Port of Cape Town have allowed us to identify these needs. In addition, we have focused on our strong relationship building abilities and will continue to build on this success with the various players in the industry. This has allowed us to be better positioned to understand their needs and satisfy their requirements. Our reputation built up in Cape Town, while working out of the V&A Cold Store is a significant part of this advantage.
What Customers does it Meet?
As the "new kids on the block" start out on their new ventures, they do not have the financial support necessary to sustain themselves in a highly volatile and capital-intensive industry, which does not always carry the guarantees of success. In order for the individual to survive, he has to spend as much time in the harvest ground and as little time tied up on the quay. This is not unique to the third world or developing countries and taking lessons learnt from developed countries, that by outsourcing certain services in your industry, you are able to concentrate on what you do best and in this case, it would be fishing.
What is it?
The V&A Processing - Cape Town, is strategically placed to service the fishing industry with a "one-stop" processing, value adding, blast freezing and quay side service, allowing vessels to be discharged of their catch in a secure, efficient and HACCP approved facility. The vessel will then re-locate to our cold storage facility in South Arm Road, to be loaded with bait and ice while taking fuel and provisions on board for the next voyage to the harvest ground. We believe there are other services that we will be able to provide in the future, that will be beneficial to the fisherman, potentially these being freight forwarding and clearing; a venue where the fisherman can sell his goods to the market, i.e. fish market; storage for his fishing tackle and gear, etc.
